Scouts recruits (both boys and girls) are drawn largely from the cub pack aged from about 10 ½ years, but generally joining scouts with no cub experience can be accommodated. New Scouts spend about 4 weeks as joining members before being formally invested into the worldwide Scouting movement, being placed into a 'Patrol' and receiving their 'Green Book' to record their progress together with appropriate uniform badges.
They then have a wide program of activities to support progress through three achievement levels: Pioneer, Explorer and Adventurer, becoming more challenged at each level. The basic themes of developing traditional Scouting life skills and behaviour (Campcraft and Citizenship) are supplemented by widely varied activities and experiences incorporating all manner of contemporary influences. Scouts can move through to the Venturer unit at about the age of 14 ½ years.
At all times the safety and wellbeing of the Scouts is paramount: the next priority is to provide a fun environment to interact with peers and Leaders while being guided to grow into good and decent adult citizens equipped with many valuable life skills.
The Troop is organised into Patrols of 4 - 8 Scouts, lead by a Patrol Leader (PL) and Assistant Patrol Leader (APL). An important Scouting emphasis is on providing leadership guidance and opportunities to these senior Scouts.
The 12th Caulfield Scout Troop meets on Thursdays 1900 - 2100 during the normal school terms, and there are typically two camps each term. These may be held in one of the magnificent Scout parks in Victoria, or at other bush, rural or beach locations

Chewton CFA hosts Caulfield Scouts On the 26th of October, 2008, 19 Scouts from 12th Caulfield Scout Troop visited the Chewton fire station following arrangements by one of our Scouts, during a combined weekend camp with 3rd Sunbury Troop at Golden Point. We met Captain Jo as she showed us around the station, the Chewton and Castlemaine firetrucks present and told us how everything worked. It was really fun especially when we got to go on the trucks and try on their uniforms. Familiarity with our various Emergency Services is an important part of our Scout activities and learning - thanks CFA!
After, we went to the monster meeting place where on the 15th of December 1851, over 12,000 Gold Diggers met to protest. All in all it was a fantastic morning that everybody thoroughly enjoyed.
Chloe Love, Patrol Leader.
